Our Origin

A name that means
the opening of the musk-bag

Naafa Kushaa is the Persian phrase for that singular, suspended moment when fragrance escapes its origin — not sprayed, not poured, but released. Like a secret shared in a quiet room.

"Each creation is crafted to unfold slowly, revealing layers that linger long after the first encounter."

We are rooted in Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh — a city that has held the soul of Indian perfumery for over four centuries. Before synthetic fragrance existed, Kannauj mastered it. Our attars carry that inheritance into the present — for those who notice the difference.

The Workshop

Deg-bhapka distillation — unchanged for 400 years

01 · Harvest

Botanical Selection

Rose, jasmine, kewra, and rare Indian botanicals are gathered at dawn — when their fragrance is at peak intensity.

02 · Distillation

The Deg-Bhapka Method

Petals are packed into a hand-hammered copper still (deg) over a wood fire. Steam rises and carries the fragrance into a receiver submerged in cool water.

03 · Absorption

Into Sandalwood Base

Distilled essence is captured into aged sandalwood oil (the bhapka), which holds and deepens the fragrance for months on the skin.

04 · Maturation

Rest and Refinement

Attars age in sealed leather vessels called kuppi — sometimes for years — allowing the scent to round out and reveal its fullest character.
